Project Plan

Project Plan

As mention before, this is my project plan on how I will plan out how I will create my magazine in a period of three - four months. As you are are able to see, I will first start creating my questionnaire and find out results from this and analyse. As well as this, I analysed two exisitng front covers and will produce a mock up. This was done in the first month as planned. During December, I was able to product as many drafts of my front covers until it suited my needs.

After the christmas holidays, I analysed two exisitng double page spread and create a mock up of my own double page spread. In January, I have created around 5-6 drafts of my double page spread, so then I can make sure that I like it rather than being rubbish. I was able to add all the main conventions on both front cover and double page spread so far. During January, I was also able to create an advert which will feature in my music magazine. In February, we was meant to analyse two exisitng table of contents, however this did not happen, however I was still able to create my table of contents by looking at other magazines.

During the half term, I was able to edit any drafts which I needed to complete. After creating my drafts of my table of contents, I started to create my final copies of my front cover and my double page spread. By March, I had finished everything, including my final copy of my table of contents. Halfway thorugh March, I was able to update my blog as well as create an issu magazine to show my final copy of my music magazine.

After this, this is followed on by my evaluation of my whole project plan of creating a music magazine, which will take place after Easter.

Issuu PDF

This shows the final issue of my music magazine, which includes all of my final drafts of my front cover, my advert, my table of contents and my double page spread.

I was able to create this on issu.com. By using this website, I am able to create the final copy of my music magazine, which will automactically create my magazine. However, before I started doing this, I had to open up Microsoft Publisher, and pasted all my images of the front cover, the advert, the table of contents and the double page spread. After pasting these, on separate sheets but the same document, I had to make sure that they were all the right size by resizing them. After doing this, I made sure that I saved my work, I then printted this by using the PDP creator to create this document.

After this, I went to issuu.com and went to upload. I then browsed for my PDF document. After this, I was sent an email, which told me that my document was done. As this was done, I was able to see the final copy of my magazine. This was then embedded to my blog as you can see.

Therfore, you are able to see the final issue of the magazine as it is all put together to make it look like a real music magazine.

Double Page Presentation

This is a presentation of one of my music magazine analysis. This contains information about the first music analysis I did on the double page spread.

I decided to chose NME, due to the fact that they are an established music magazine brand which everyone has heard of. NME is generally for the indie market as you are able to see from the images. The target market for this audience is people who are into indie/rock/hip-hop music. The type of language which is used in a specific articel found in the NME magazine, is colloquial and informal, as well as being direct.

In this article, I talked about the consistent colour scheme of black, white and red which is constanly used throughout the article as well as the magazine. The style of the text and how the article is laid out. Also, I talked about the eye flow and the main conventions, which I will need to follow in order to create my double page spread.

Final Draft

This shows the final draft of my front cover, my table of contents and my double page spread.

On the front cover, I was able to make changes and edit anything which was needed. I was able to change the colour of the masthead into white, so then it is able to stand out and look more professional to the potential readers who may consider buying this music magazine.

On the table of contents, I was able to change the whole layout of the contents page in order for it to look more eye-catching. I was able to move the editoral pillars on the left and made sure that I aligned this to the main heading. I also added a editorial letter which is a main convention. I also added an image on the right hand corner which I editted by using the 'Magnetic Lasso Tool' to remove the background.

For my double page spread, I was able to make a few changes, which included sizing and font. I also changed the colours of the font and made sure that all the text was readable for the readers, as well as looking eye-catching.

Table of Contents

For my table of contents, I was able to use the cover lines in which I first started from. I used the cover lines from my fornt cover and added a few more, underneath each editorial pillar. I inserted an image of the front cover as this is a main convention in which music magazines use. I also inserted the main heading music magazine name 'Flava' and the 'Contents' so then readers are aware of this. I was also able to insert an image as well as offering readers a subscription offer.

When creating, my table of contents, I was able to follow my mock up, I was able to insert the image of my front cover on the top left third and having the name of the magazine on the contents page. I also put the 'Contents Page' so then readers are able to see what the page is and what the magazine consists off.

However I did not follow all the conventions which I wanted by looking at my mock up. As I did not follow my plan, I changed the whole layout of the table of contents to suit my needs and standards. I was able to insert a slug on the top of the contents page, as I realised this was a main convention in which most music magazines use. I also deleted the word 'page' from the 'contents page' as readers already know what the page is. I have also decided to use editorial pillars so then I am able to place my cover lines underneath the pillars to make it look more professional. I also changed the layout of the editorial pillar and decided to placce it in the right third to make it look more eye-catching.

Underneath each editorial pillar, I was able to insert at least four cover lines which are related to the magazine and the theme of R&B. I then inserted the selling line and placed it at the top right third and aligned it to the left.

Afterwards, I decided to change the positiong of the front cover image and placed it on the right and moved the titles 'Flava' and 'Contents' to the left third. I also moved all the editorial pillars and made sure that they are aligned with the two titles. I also moved the page numbers to the left and aligned them as well. I also changed the editorial letter by changing the font and size and insert the editors name at the bottom.

Before, creating my table of contents, I was able to create a mock up so then I am able to know where I would like to put things on the contents page, which includes images, text etc...

I have decided to put the image of the front cover on the top left hand corner, as this is a main convention in which music magazines use. Next to it, I decided to put the editorial letter which is also a main convention. I will also insert the magazine name 'Flava' on the contents page so then readers are able to see what the magazine is. I will also insert a textbox which says 'Contents Page' so then readers are able to see what the page is. I have also decided to put two images, which will relate to the contents page and the whole music magazine. The contents page will therefore, consist of the cover line which were mention on the front cover, as well as inserting a few more. I will also create an offer, will reader will be satisified with, as well as being a main convention so then they are able to alert readers to the music magazine.

Double Page Spread

The double page spread will consist of the new girl group called 'Pretty In Pink.' I have decided to use the theme of pink on the double page spread, so then it relates to the girl group. The double page spread is an interview about them and consists of different questions in which both Abigail and Taiena answers them. Here I was able to change the colour and font to make it stand out more and look attractive and appealing for the readers.

I first started to insert the main image of Taiena and Abigail.I decided to insert this on the left third and took up the whole side of this. The cover line 'Getting Down To Business' was placed on top of the image, with the leading text underneath it. The slug is placed on the top of the right third as this is a main convention in which music magazine consists of. As you are able to see, I was able to follow my mock up, which made it easier to create my double page spread. The body text, is the 'Pretty In Pink' article and is written in my own words which relates to the new girl group as well as the overall theme of music.

I was able to make the main image more bigger by holding down on the 'shift' button, so then the image doesnt distort. For the article title, i changed the font and size and added a white backdrop behind so then it can stand out. I was able to change the font of the body text, so then it stands out and attractive, as well as inserting a pull quote which was used in the body text. The pull quote was added, so then the double page spread looks more professional and realistic. I then added an image of the girl group and editted it before I inserted it, by using the tool 'Magnetic Lasso Tool' to take away the pink background. I also added a page number which was placed on the bottom right third so then readers are able to see what page they are on. Furthermore, the leading text is placed underneath the article title and was able to change the font and colour if needed.

After doing all this, I made sure that I aligned everything, so then it is easier to read. Moreover, due to the body text being in the font as 'Broadway' I needed to change the font to a much clearer font so then readers are able to read it and is clearer. I also changed the font of the article title to Hand of Sean, so then it will match my front cover.

I then got feedback from my teacher and was told to consider changing the girl group to Pretty In Pink rather than Flawless. I also had many spelling errors which I changed throughout my interview. Moreover, I added an outro, to end the interview on a positive level so then readers are able to read more about the girl group of they wanted to. I also added a white backdrop on the page number, so then it will stand out to the readers.

Front Cover Final

For my final front cover, I was able to get feedback from my media teacher. On this front cover, I was able to change the colour of the masthead so then it will stand out more and look more attarctive. As well as this, I changed the cover lines of some of them.

On this draft, I was able to change the colour of my masthead to the colour white, so then it looks more attaractive and looks more readable. I also editted the cover lines, by deleting the words 'Who is..' so then it the cover line sounds more catchy and efficient. As well as that, I change dthe & sign and made it smaller, as well as changing the colour to white and making sure that there was no backdrop behind it.

Thus, as I mentioned before, I deleted the cover line words 'Who Is' I decided to put it back in, as I wanted this to be a rhetorical questions in which readers will think about if purchasing the music magazine.
